Philomusica String Quartet

Wisconsin Lutheran College is pleased to have the energetic Philomusica String Quartet as the college’s resident string quartet for 2016-2017. In its ninth season, the Philomusica String Quartet continues to delight its loyal, growing audiences with jewels of the string quartet repertoire, and win the praise of critics.

  • Recognized also for their compelling and distinctive programming, the quartet highlights for the 2016-2017 season are: Franz Schubert’s emotional masterpiece the Death and the Maiden quartet, Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s complex quartet No. 2 in F major, Johannes Brahms’ enigmatic quartet No. 2 in A minor, and Ernö Dohnányi’s powerful Piano Quintet in C minor with guest pianist Eli Kalman!

Their fluid handling of the piece struck a balance between highlighting the architecture of its intricately layered phrases and capturing its shifting moods, with seamless phrase handoffs and a feeling of musical ease.
