MILWAUKEE, WI - On Saturday, May 20, Wisconsin Lutheran College held its spring commencement exercises in the Recreation Complex - Time of Grace Center. WLC awarded diplomas to 164 traditional undergraduate students, accelerated degree completion students, and graduate students this semester. WLC's 2023 graduates are from 16 states plus Brazil. They represent 36 undergraduate majors and three master's programs.

COMMENCEMENT SPEAKERS

Rev. David Kolander

Keynote speaker Rev. David P. Kolander is the assistant to the district president of the Southeastern Wisconsin District of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS), after having served as the district’s president from 2016 to 2022. He also has served as one of the pastors at Christ the Lord Lutheran Church in Brookfield, Wisconsin, since 2001.

Grace Stroh

Graduating senior Grace Stroh was nominated by faculty and chosen by her classmates to be the student speaker at commencement. A resident assistant and four-year member of the Wisconsin Lutheran Choir, Stroh is graduating with a B.S. in mathematics and English. In the summer of 2022, she researched image segmentation of satellite images at Florida Institute of Technology. She presented this research at conferences in Green Bay, Eau Claire, and Nebraska, along with WLC’s Undergraduate Research Symposium. In August, Stroh will begin pursuing her Ph.D. in Mathematics at Montana State University. She is the daughter of WLC alumni John '99 and Rachel (Reinke) Stroh '00.

Jacob Werre

Jacob Werre received the Alumni Service Award during the commencement ceremony and welcomed graduates to the ranks of WLC alumni. A 2015 WLC graduate with a degree in communicative arts, Werre is an account supervisor with TRG Marketing. He served on WLC's Alumni Board from 2017-2020 and was a part-time Resident Counselor from 2017-2021. Werre now lives in La Crosse, Wisconsin, with his wife, Kathy.
