WLC students in science lab

Chemistry Major

Leverage your curiousity and analytical mind by pursuing a major in chemistry.

Small class sizes, along with excellent science facilities and instrumentation, create an environment in which you can engage in hands-on, experiential learning through diverse research projects in collaboration with respected professors.

Students have worked on industry-research collaborations funded by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and National Science Foundation. Our chemistry majors have previously been published in respected science journals, an opportunity not often available to undergraduate students.

You’ll gain a solid foundation in the concepts and applications of chemistry, as well as perform research alongside faculty or plan and accomplish your own independent analysis. You can take advantage of laboratory experiences that will make you an attractive candidate for competitive internships and prepare you for graduate school and/or a career in such areas as medicine, education, business, manufacturing, natural resource management, and government.

Our students learn by working closely with faculty who are not only dedicated teachers, but also enthusiastic researchers. Like professors at many major research universities, our faculty members in the chemistry department hold a doctorate degree and have made meaningful contributions to their field of expertise. But unlike these larger schools, you will never find yourself supervised by a teaching assistant

Experiential. Immersive. International.

Learning should not be a spectator sport. Our STEM programs are hands-on, meaning our students actively engage in research, explore local and international ecosystems, attend and present at national conferences, contribute to academic journals, and take part in academic competitions.
