Faculty Search Process

Wisconsin Lutheran College seeks to recruit faculty who are active members of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod or the Evangelical Lutheran Synod and who share our commitment to quality Christian higher education and faithfulness to the Scriptures. The faculty search process is outlined below.

Composition of Search Committee

The search committee will consist of the following members of the faculty/staff:

  1. The school chairperson
  2. The department head
  3. Departmental faculty
  4. A faculty member from another department, preferably from department that is directly impacted by the choice of candidate (e.g., provides collateral courses for the major)
  5. A representative of the Office of Human Resources to assist the committee in its efforts

Search Committee Chairperson

The committee members will elect a committee chairperson. This leader is responsible for organizing regular meetings of the committee and delegating specific responsibilities to other members. The chair will ensure that each committee member has a voice in the process and that all candidates are vetted before the committee.

Search Committee Function

The ultimate goal of the committee is to generate a ranked list of two to three candidates that will be provided via the Provost to the Executive Committee of the Board of Regents for the purposes of issuing a divine call through the District President of the Southeastern Wisconsin District of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod. In order to achieve this goal, the search committee will identify and contact prospective candidates to determine their interest, skills, knowledge, and abilities, along with overall fit to carry out the requirements of the position. Qualified candidates may be invited to participate in an on-campus interview. Under certain circumstances, a Zoom meeting may be scheduled for the interview process.

Candidate Ranking

Following the interview process, the search committee will meet to discuss the merits of each candidate. The ranked listing of candidates will then be provided to the Dean of the appropriate college, along with the Provost.

The Nomination Process

Candidates for the faculty position will be initially identified by a formal nomination. Such nomination may be submitted by a third-party nominator or a self-nomination by the potential candidate. Please use this link for the information needed for the formal nomination.

Nominators should notify the potential candidate of the intent to submit them for nomination. Interested candidates should submit a letter of interest, CV/resume, and three letters of recommendation (one recommendation should be from the candidate’s pastor). All documents may be provided to the Office of the Provost by email, or mailed to the Office of the Provost c/o Wisconsin Lutheran College, 8800 W. Bluemound Rd., Milwaukee, WI 53226.
