Rastrelli Cello Quartet PhotoMILWAUKEE – Kira Kraftzoff, Kirill Timofeev, Misha Degtjareff and Sergio Drabkine perform as the Rastrelli Cello Quartet, February 29, 2008, at Wisconsin Lutheran College. The performance begins at 8 p.m. in the Schwan Concert Hall.

The Rastrelli Quartet, all native Russians, share a desire to prove how any style of music can be played on the cello. Three of these cellists studied at the St. Petersburg State Conservatory while the fourth was a student at the Minsk State Conservatory. The Quartet has performed across Europe, Russia and Canada, winning rave reviews and awards. From baroque to rock and other genres in between, the Quartet’s repertoire consists of transcriptions; music not originally intended to be performed on the cello. The music is indeed classic but not necessarily classical.

The Rastrelli Cello Quartet is sponsored in part by the Wisconsin Arts Board and Wauwatosa Savings Bank. The Schwan Concert Hall is located in the college’s Center for Arts and Performance at 8815 W. Wisconsin Ave. Tickets are $25 general, $22 seniors and $10 students. To purchase tickets, call the WLC box office at (414) 443-8802 or visit wlc.edu/arts.

Since 1996, the Wisconsin Lutheran College Center for Arts and Performance has been providing a comprehensive program of performing and visual arts and educational and community events for students and the people of southeastern Wisconsin.
