Wisconsin Lutheran Presents Annual Fall Showcase Concerts

Date Posted: September 21, 2007

MILWAUKEE – The choir, chamber choir and concert band of Wisconsin Lutheran College will present their first performances of the season, the annual fall showcase concerts, on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 5 and 6 at 8 p.m. in the Schwan Concert Hall, located in the Center for Arts and Performance, 8815 W. Wisconsin Ave. Tickets are $5 general, $4 senior and $2 students and may be purchased through the box office at (414) 443-8802 or visit wlc.edu/arts.

The college concert band, under the direction of Professor Terry Treuden, will perform selections by contemporary composers speaking to the music of the air. The opening song entitled Nitro by Frank Ticheli, is described as an “energy-charged three minute whirlwind.” This sets the stage for Eric Whitacre’s October, reminiscent to fall crisp winds and leads into Wataru Hokoyama’s Beyond, written for an air force band, which conjures images of flight.

The Wisconsin Lutheran Choir and chamber choir, led by James Nowack, Ph.D., will appear in the second half of the concert. The chamber choir will perform Shakespeare Songs, a series of three compositions by Matthew Harris. The Wisconsin Lutheran Choir will offer sacred music selections, including the anthem Amazing Grace and Slava V Vyshnikh Bogu by Russian composer Rachmaninoff.

Wisconsin Lutheran College is an independent, liberal arts college located on the west side of Milwaukee.
