Wisconsin Lutheran College choirs offer spring concert

MILWAUKEE – The Wisconsin Lutheran Choir, Chamber Choir and Chapel Choir perform a spring concert of anthems, folksongs and the musical parodies of P.D.Q. Bach (a.k.a. Peter Schickele) Friday, April 27, at 8 p.m. in the Schwan Concert Hall. Tickets are $5 general, $4 seniors and $2 students and may be purchased through the box office at (414) 443-8802 or online at wlc.edu/arts. 

The Wisconsin Lutheran Choir’s offerings include “Zion’s Walls” by Aaron Copland, “I Dream of Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair” by Stephen Foster, and the American folksong “Cindy” arranged by Mack Wilberg. The Chamber Choir performs a selection of the “Liebeslieder Polkas” by music parodist Peter Schickele (P.D.Q. Bach). The Chapel Choir’s program includes “At Last” by Mack Gordon and Harry Warren, “Beside the Still Waters” by Rollo A. Dilworth, and the English folksong “Oh, Dear! What Can the Matter Be?” arranged by Drew Collins.

The 56-voice Wisconsin Lutheran Choir and the 22-voice Chamber Choir perform under the direction of Dr. James Nowack. Ms. Carolyn Fons directs the 41-voice Chapel Choir. The Schwan Concert Hall is located in the college’s Center for Arts and Performance, 8815 W. Wisconsin Ave.
