"Song of the Water Boatman" illustrator Beckie Prange to exhibit at Wisconsin Lutheran College

MILWAUKEE - Illustrator Beckie Prange exhibits the original hand-colored woodcuts created for the book "Song of the Water Boatman and other pond poems" in the Schlueter Art Gallery at Wisconsin Lutheran College October 20-November 17. An artist reception, book signing and book fair takes place Friday, October 20 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Prange also offers an artist talk October 20 at 3:30 p.m. in the Reichel Lecture Hall.

Prange, of Ely, Minnesota, attended Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, Illinois, and majored in biology and earned a graduate certificate in natural science illustration. "Song of the Water Boatman" is a children's book written by Joyce Sidman and published by Houghton Mifflin in the spring of 2005. "Boatman," a Caldecott Honor Book as well as a winner of the BCCB Blue Ribbon Nonfiction Book Award, combines poetry, scientific information and Prange's woodcuts.

The "Song of the Water Boatman" exhibition, artist talk, reception and book signing are free and open to the public. The event is presented with community partner Harry W. Schwartz. The Schlueter Art Gallery and Reichel Lecture Hall are located in the college Center for Arts and Performance at 8815 W. Wisconsin Ave. Schlueter Art Gallery hours are Monday-Saturday 9 a.m.-9 p.m. and Sunday 1 p.m.-9 p.m. The gallery is closed during holidays.
