MILWAUKEE – Wisconsin Lutheran College students who make a difference and an impact on campus were honored at the 2013 Impact Awards Luncheon May 1 in the Siebert Center.
Wisconsin Lutheran College senior John Klein, a nursing major from West Allis, Wisconsin, is the 21st recipient of the college's Impact Award. John (center) has served the college through his work in Campus Ministry, his contributions on the football field, and as the student director of Warriors at Work.
"John Klein is a leader in every way," said Dr. Dennis Miller at the Impact Awards Luncheon. "His Christian walk came out so clearly in virtually everything he did. And he played football with an enthusiasm and attitude that rubbed off on people."
The four other finalists for the Impact Award also honored at the luncheon were (pictured left to right) Kelsi Daffner, Lachrisa Grandberry, Anna Biedenbender, and Jamie Valerio.
Kelsi Daffner, a junior elementary education major from Two Rivers, Wisconsin, has demonstrated reliable and enthusiastic leadership as the public relations director for WLC's Future Teachers' Education Association chapter. She is a team leader for the Center for Urban Teaching, where she has faithfully served for three years.
Lachrisa Grandberry is a junior theatre major from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. As a member of the Ambassador Club, she welcomes guests to campus with her enthusiastic spirit. Her passion to impact the lives of others is evident in her work with a local children's theatre program for disadvantaged children and her leadership and participation in WLC's theatre department.
Anna Biedenbender is a junior art major from New Ulm, Minnesota. As team leader for the Ambassador Club, she has positively impacted prospective students and their families during campus visits. Anna was named the 2013 Wisconsin Student Employee of the Year by the Midwest Association of Student Employment Administrators. She also was the 2013 WLC Student Employee of the Year. At the 2013 Honors Convocation, Anna received the Golden Palette Award and the Gary & Sandra Greenfield Christian Leadership Scholarship.
Jamie Valerio is a senior from Federal Way, Washington, with a double major in biological anthropology and communication. She has consistently modeled servant leadership through her involvement with students. She served as Student Senate president in 2012-2013, as the Senate made a positive impact in several areas on campus. Jamie was the 2011 recipient of the WLC Alumni Scholarship.
