Support Wisconsin Lutheran College

Wisconsin Lutheran College relies on the generosity of alumni, parents, friends, corporations, and foundations that believe in the college's mission of preparing Christian leaders. Learn more about how to support our mission today!

The cost of attending college can add up quickly. However, many assume that the money WLC collects in tuition equals what it costs to operate the college. While that's a natural assumption, you may be surprised to learn that tuition only covers 47 percent of the cost of a WLC education.

WLC awards more than $11 million in scholarships annually through gifts to the college. Those gifts come in many forms, but by far and away, most of the money raised comes from individual donors like you - people who believe in Wisconsin Lutheran College and want to see it flourish and grow.

We rely on the generous spirit of those who value this institution. We hope you are included in that group. If so, thank you for your support. If not, please consider a gift. As you can see, your donation will make a difference in the life of a student, each and every day.

There are many ways in which you can contact us to make a gift to Wisconsin Lutheran College. Call us at 414.443.8823 or email us. Our mailing address is: Office of Development, c/o Wisconsin Lutheran College, 8800 W. Bluemound Road, Milwaukee, WI 53226.

Many employers have matching gift programs which will match part or all of your gift to Wisconsin Lutheran College. Using gift matching opportunities is a great way to multiply the impact of your gift and provide even greater benefit to our students!

Many companies have gift matching programs for their employees. Some companies even match gifts made by retirees and spouses of employees. These gift matching programs often will double, and sometimes triple, the impact of gifts made to higher educational institutions such as Wisconsin Lutheran College.

To find out if your company has a matching gift program, you can contact your Human Resources representative, search your employer's online benefits site, or we can assist you. Please call Donor Services at 414.443.8823 or email us.

To apply for matching gifts, just request a matching gift form from your employer, complete it and send it to us with your gift. We will submit the form for processing. Some employers also allow you to submit your matching gift application online.

We've created a special website to help you plan for your future - and for the future of Wisconsin Lutheran College. Visit the site, which is your resource for charitable gift planning, or contact Rich Mannisto, Vice President of Development, at 414.443.8788 or by email for more information.

The cost of a college education continues to rise. With the current challenging economic times, students need scholarship support now more than ever. Your generosity will make a world of difference to the next generation of Christian leaders who wish to attend WLC. Our staff is here to help you establish an annual named scholarship or an endowed named scholarship at WLC. To get started, contact Donor Services at 414.443.8823 or by email.

    Creating a Named Scholarship:

    • When scholarships are created, donors can name a scholarship to honor or memorialize family members, friends, professors, or mentors.
    • The donors can reflect their passions and interests by indicating what type of student receives their scholarship. The scholarship can be designated for a specific type of student (nursing major, education major, etc.), although many donors allow the financial aid director to distribute the money as needed. It's the donor's choice!
    • Donors will have the choice as to whether they wish to fund an annual or endowed scholarship.
    • Other contributing family members or friends need to specifically designate any gifts to that scholarship. Matching gifts also are directed to the scholarship.
    • A Memorandum of Understanding will be placed on file to ensure the terms of the donor's scholarship are being carried out.

Annual Named Scholarships:  Donors can create an annual named scholarship at WLC by making a yearly gift totaling $1,000 or more for that purpose. This scholarship will continue to be awarded as long as the donors contribute to the scholarship at the $1,000 level annually.

    Endowed Named Scholarships:

    • An endowed scholarship can be started at any time with a gift of $25,000 or more.
    • An endowed scholarship is permanent and will fund a scholarship annually, forever.
    • With a gift of $25,000 or more, the donor will become a permanent member of our Ella Post Legacy Society because the scholarship qualifies as an endowed or continuing gift.
    • The principal is preserved. Four percent of the earnings are used for student financial aid. Any income above the four percent is reinvested into the endowment fund for the scholarship. The endowed scholarship will grow over time by way of reinvestment, additional contributions, and funding through estate plans. As the scholarship grows, so does the financial support for students.

Wisconsin Lutheran College is a miracle. In 1973 a handful of dedicated Christian leaders gathered to organize a new Christ-centered liberal arts college. Wisconsin Lutheran College began as a dream with no facilities and no full-time faculty. But what our founders did have was a strong faith in God and a determination to make it happen.

"It was just plain faith," that turned WLC from a dream to a reality. True. But it also took friends who were willing to commit significant financial resources in addition to their gifts of time, talents, and prayers. To commemorate and celebrate the treasures - past, present, and future - that God's people generously give to Wisconsin Lutheran College, we have created the 1973 Society.

Established in 2014, the 1973 Society exists to thank and celebrate the foundations, corporations, and individuals who have generously supported Wisconsin Lutheran College with lifetime gifts totaling $50,000 or more. Named to honor the unwavering faith of the college's founders, the society celebrates the historic and ongoing gifts of men and women who continue to believe so deeply in the mission of our young institution.

If you have questions, or would like to learn more about the 1973 Society, please contact Donor Services at 414.443.8823 or by email.

In 1982, Ella Post, a Milwaukee-area Lutheran led by faith in her God and the conviction that the world needed Wisconsin Lutheran College, was prompted to place the ultimate confidence in the college. The college received a substantial portion of Ella's estate in 1984, so the mission to spread the good news of the gospel could be continued at Wisconsin Lutheran College well after the Lord called her to her eternal home.

The purpose of the Ella Post Legacy Society is to honor and recognize those friends and alumni who have included a legacy gift in their estate plans to benefit the college. These dedicated individuals are a reflection of Ella Post's early commitment to supporting the growth and development of Wisconsin Lutheran College. In doing so, these people recognize the college's unique role in fulfilling our Savior's divine commission to make disciples of all nations. As a thank you, members of the Ella Post Legacy Society are annually invited to a dinner and an event on campus.

Membership is extended to alumni, parents and friends who notify the college of their intention to benefit Wisconsin Lutheran College in their estate plan. Gift arrangements which qualify include:

    • Wills
    • Charitable trusts
    • Gifts of life insurance
    • Gift annuities
    • Retained life estates
    • Retirement plan beneficiary designations
    • Endowed funds

The Servant Leader Society is a  giving society that recognizes the generous donations of those who have given $1,000 or more to Wisconsin Lutheran College during the course of the college's fiscal year.

We've named our giving society the Servant Leader Society for one very simple reason: Every gift helps us carry out our ministry of preparing servant leaders to impact the world for Jesus' sake. Every gift helps us prepare our students for lives of Christian leadership.

In honor of their support of Wisconsin Lutheran College, Servant Leader Society members receive the following benefits:

    • Recognition on a campus display
    • Recognition in the WLC Annual Donor Report
    • Invitation to a special donor recognition annual event
    • Annual WLC wall calendar
    • Updates from President Johnson throughout the year

We hope you will consider becoming a member of the Servant Leader Society. For more information about joining the society, please contact Donor Services at 414.443.8823 or by email.

The WLC fiscal year runs from July 1 to June 30 of the following calendar year. Society membership is based on the total of gifts received between these dates annually. Gifts from matching gift organizations are counted in the total.
