Background
I’ve been blessed to serve in a variety of school settings over the past 44 years of my career. From the traditional one-room school in South Dakota to a Lutheran elementary school in Citrus Heights, California, to a school administrator in a large urban school in downtown Milwaukee. In addition, my family and I had the opportunity to establish an English-speaking school shortly after communism fell in Eastern Europe (Plzen, Czech Republic) in 1991. I came to WLC in 2007 and serve as the current Chair and Director of Teacher Education in the School of Teacher Education. I’m married to my wonderful wife, Cindi who serves as the National Coordinator for Early Childhood Ministries at WELS and have two adult sons, Chris (WELS principal-Detroit) and Adam (structural engineer-San Francisco), their wives, Cristina (graphic designer) and Katy (art educator), and five granddaughters, Ella, Addy, Cammy, Milly, Vivi and one grandson, George.

Research Interests
I greatly enjoy researching and reading about the history and development of American education. In particular I’m interested in the educational history of African Americans from slavery through the time of the Civil Rights Movement. Understanding the hurdles that people overcome in order to better themselves through education has always been an interest of mine.
