Adam Heizen applies communicative arts to the world of sports

HeinzenPicture1.jpgAdam Heinzen, communicative arts '06, will be the first to tell you that he has had a unique experience at Wisconsin Lutheran College.  As a senior, Heinzen took on the duties of Sports Information Director (SID) a job not typically assigned to an undergraduate.  His duties included taking stats at games, reporting scores to the media, preparing media guides and writing press releases on the games.  Taking classes in mass communication has helped this communicative arts major build on the experience he gained while working for the Athletics Department.

The professionalism that Heinzen shows and his passion to take on the position helped him to be recognized by other colleges.  Last December, Heinzen was asked by the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee SID to take stats at the U.S. Cellular Arena for a men's Division 1 basketball game.  Heinzen was chosen because The UWM director trusted him to do the job right.

WLC's former SID recognized Heinzen's talent as a freshman and encouraged him to go for the position at WLC.  "I couldn't have asked for a better on-campus job," Heinzen says.  Following graduation, he would like to work in sports information for a small college before moving to a Division 1 school.
