Professor Burmeister's primary teaching emphasis is 2-D design, graphic design, and contemporary theory. He has a decade of real world experiences as an art director in publishing, marketing, and printing. As a creative artist, Burmeister maintains an active studio painting and illustrating. His diverse interests include color, children's books, and theories of time.

Burmeister is the college's Assistant Dean of Advising, directing programs of academic advising, overseeing COL 101 and 201, assisting with efforts of retention and persistence, and providing advocacy for students in academic situations.
