An Artist's Journey: Aaron Boyd
February 15-March 8, 2019
Join us for "An Artist's Journey: Aaron Boyd" in the Schlueter Art Gallery.
Artist Statement: As an illustrator and creator of children's books, I was blessed to know at age 5 that I wanted to be an artist and by 6 I knew I wanted to make children's books with my art. Milwaukee born and educated, I have always valued and sought to represent the diversity and beauty of our world with my books whether in fantasy, biographical, poetry, or any other genre. I have illustrated more than 40 books over the years, working with Lee and Low, Little Brown, Houghton Mifflin, and Scholastic to name a few. I've been fortunate to pick up awards here and there as well, but my measure of success is that I keep getting to do what I love and share it with the world.
My advice to fellow artists: Don't worry about your style and what you can and cannot paint. Style and technique is the easy part; it will find you in time. Experience life, learn, and grow so that when your style does find you, you will have something to say with your art.
When I'm not illustrating or writing, I'm likely walking the shores of Lake Michigan with my pup Gretel and planning my next trip. - Aaron Boyd
The Opening Reception was held on February 15 in the Schlueter Art Gallery. Artist Aaron Boyd gave a talk about his illustrations on February 28 in the gallery.
