WLC Lingo

  • RA (Resident Assistant) a junior or senior student who oversees a floor or apartment; serves as a leader and mentor

  • RC (Resident Counselor) - post graduate staff members who oversee RAs and supervise a residence hall or set of apartment buildings

  • REX (Recreation Complex) - houses the gymnasium, fitness center and athletic offices

  • WU (Warrior Underground) - houses the mailroom, stage and dance floor and the Brewhaus snack bar

  • Chapel - refers to the location on the 2nd floor of the administration building or the 20 minutes each day when the campus gathers for devotion

  • Quad - the grassy area between the Campus Center, Center for Arts and Performance, REX and library; a place where students enjoy playing Frisbee or studying on spring days

  • Info Desk - reception area located in the front entrance of the administration building

  • Front Circle - the entrance of off Bluemound Road that wraps in front of the Stimac Hall, West Hall, and the Gary J. Greenfield Administration Building

  • Stimac and West - residence halls located to the east and west of the Gary J. Greenfield Administration Building; house freshmen and sophomores

  • GDR - general degree requirement; courses that must be completed by all students

  • BA - bachelor of arts

  • BS - bachelor of science

  • BSN - bachelor of science in nursing

  • Add/Drop - the last day in the semester when students can add or drop a class, and the class won't appear on their transcripts

  • Syllabus - a document outlining the expectations of a particular course

  • GPA - grade point average

  • Pre-req - a lower level course which must be completed before taking a higher level course in that particular discipline

  • Overload - taking more than 18 credits in any given semester; must be approved by Academic Dean and student's advisor

  • 6th Man - student fan section at Warrior basketball games

  • Tea - Afternoon Tea, a monthly campus activity where faculty, staff and students gather in the Campus Center Galleria for tea, treats, and conversation

  • JC - Johnson Controls; maintenance and housekeeping staff

  • Tech - the Technology department

  • Nun Run - hallway leading into the B section of the campus center; name comes from the original use of the building as a convent/girls' home

  • The Sword - student newspaper; published monthly

  • Galleria - the area where the Administration Building meets the Campus Center

  • The Raabe - Raabe Theatre located in the Fine Arts building; venue of many campus theatre productions

  • 540s - campus owned apartment building on North 90th Street

  • Honeycreek - set of campus owned apartments and townhouses located on Honeycreek Parkway off of Bluemound Road

  • Brickhouse - or Late Night Grill, offers selection of foods ranging from wraps to cheese curds

  • Housing Lottery - takes place in the spring of each year, opportunity for next year's sophomores-seniors to choose their roommates and housing location for the following school year

  • The cage - security desk located in the lobbies of Stimac Hall and West Hall, staffed by Resident Assistants from 9 p.m.-12 a.m. daily

  • Ravenswood - neighborhood located directly across from WLC

  • AV - audio/visual department
