Gary's Gallop Reaches Record Numbers in 2008
Date Posted: April 21, 2008
MILWAUKEE – A record 280 runners/walkers participated in Wisconsin Lutheran College's 5th Annual Gary's Gallop on Saturday, April 19. Congratulations to Andy Ruffalo of West Bend who led the 5k with a time of 15:52 and top female runner Heidi Ertl of Racine who finished in 18:51.
Gary’s Gallop is a tribute to the late WLC president, Dr. Gary Greenfield. Its scenic course through Underwood Parkway and the WLC Athletic Complex, attracted 5k runners/walkers from age 6 through 78. Medals were given to participants in each age division.
A family event, many participants also brought their young children to participate in the Kids' Race. As parents recuperated from their run, the kids took one lap around WLC's track, many of them in the T-shirts they received for participating. Upon completion, they were greeted by current WLC President, Dr. Timothy Kriewall, who awarded the kids with their finishing ribbons.
Early estimates predict nearly $5,000 was raised for Wisconsin Lutheran College Warrior Athletics at the 5th Annual Gary's Gallop, which would not have been possible without the support of sponsors. Special thanks to Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, the Performance Enhancement Program at Froedtert, Time Warner Cable, Highland Park Pies & Café, Dunn’s Sporting Goods, Hall Chevrolet, Holiday Inn Express, Pizza Hut, Team Oasis and Alterra Coffee.
