WAUWATOSA, Wis. – A windy morning didn't stop a record 419 runners and walkers from participating in Gary's Gallop on Saturday, April 17. A tribute to the late Wisconsin Lutheran College president, Dr. Gary Greenfield, the annual 5k run and 2-mile walk benefits the Warrior Club, the college's athletics booster organization. An event for the entire family, Gary's Gallop also features a fun run for kids.
Congratulations to Andy Ruffalo the overall winner of the seventh annual run with a time of 15:59. Ruffalo is a three-time winner of Gary's Gallop, having won in 2007 and 2008. Jennifer Schweinert, an adjunct instructor in the education department at WLC, crossed the finish line first for the women with a time of 19:21.
Gary's Gallop attracts racers from all over the state to its scenic course through Underwood Parkway and the WLC Outdoor Athletic Complex. In addition to the racing community, the Wisconsin Lutheran College family embraces the race. For the first time, two alumni and former runners for the Warriors, placed in the top three as Cameron Ausen '07 placed second with a time of 16:02 and Zach Shiels '09 finished at 16:36 which was good for a third-place finish.
Without sponsorships from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, Time Warner Cable, Wisconsin Athletic Club, PEP, InStep, Dunn's Sporting Goods, Holiday Inn Express, Hall Chevrolet, George Webb Restaurants, Tim O'Brien Homes, The Reserve, Cousins Subs, Birdies Café, Team Oasis and Pizza Hut, Gary's Gallop would not have been able to raise nearly $4,000 this year.
Mark your calendars now for the eighth annual Gary's Gallop which will be held on April 16, 2011.
