Summer Arts in the Park 2009 imageMILWAUKEE – The 2009 Fine Arts Fair is the fifth installment of the free Summer Arts in the Park concert series at Wisconsin Lutheran College which will be held Saturday, July 11, in the campus courtyard.

The Fine Arts Fair, which runs from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., will be a day full of art and entertainment. Visitors will enjoy fine art and craft booths, a silent auction and great food. A variety of continuous entertainment is provided on two stages throughout the day.

The Steve Lewandowski Jazz Trio will start the day by performing many different styles of music at 9 a.m. Lewandowski on guitar is joined by Bob Maynard on vibraphone and George Welland on bass.

The Newtonburg Brass Band will recreate an early 1900s small-town band at 10 a.m. Conducted by veteran band leader Robert Kuether, the Newtonburg Brass Band utilizes vintage instruments, period music and authentic attire to bring back the sights and sounds of an old-fashioned small-town band concert. Music will feature spirited marches, light concert pieces, toe-tapping polkas and waltzes. Listeners will also enjoy instrumental solos, early Dixieland, comic novelties and the ever popular sing-alongs.

At noon, Tom Anthony performs the music of such artists as Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Buddy Holly, Tom Jones, The Platters, The Righteous Brothers, Roy Orbison, and more. Anthony captivates audiences with charisma and a smooth vocal style that captures the sound of the original artists while still maintaining his own feel.

The Kids from Wisconsin, an annual favorite of the Summer Arts in the Park series, will wrap up the entertainment with a two-hour performance of your favorite Broadway and pop tunes beginning at 2 p.m. This high energy troupe of young Wisconsin singers, dancers, and musicians never fails to delight crowds with a wide variety of tunes. The organization, dedicated to providing opportunities for musically gifted Wisconsin youth, has been in operation since 1969.

Summer Arts in the Park events take place on the Wisconsin Lutheran campus courtyard located between Bluemound Road and Wisconsin Avenue at 89th Street. There is no charge for admission and tickets are not required. Audience members should bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating. Concessions will be available throughout the day. The fair and concerts will be held inside if it rains. For further information, please call the WLC box office at (414) 443-8802 or visit www.wlc.edu/arts.
