WELS Youth Chorale and Wind Ensemble to perform at Wisconsin Lutheran College

Date Posted: June 1, 2009

MILWAUKEE – The Wisconsin Lutheran College music department will host a homecoming performance by the WELS Youth Chorale and Wind Ensemble on Wednesday, June 24 at 7 p.m. The concert program includes works by Bach, Sousa and Vaughan Williams. The performance, which will be held in the college's Schwan Concert Hall, is free and open to the public; tickets are not required.

The chorale and the wind ensemble are high school honors ensembles that come together for three weekend rehearsals in preparation for an annual summer performance tour that includes works by Bach, Sousa and Vaughan Williams. The students are primarily from Wisconsin and the Midwest.

The ensemble will begin its summer tour throughout the southern United States on June 17, starting in St. Louis, Missouri, then Tennessee, Louisiana and Indiana. In addition to performing for WELS audiences, the students will be involved in service projects, a music clinic, and will also enjoy sightseeing and free time along the way.

Immediately preceding the tour, the ensemble will take part in a pre-tour minicamp June 14-16 at WLC. During the camp, musicians will be involved in a challenging schedule of rehearsals, sectionals, and master classes in preparation for their tour.

The Schwan Concert Hall is located in the Center for Arts and Performance, 8815 West Wisconsin Avenue. For more information about the homecoming concert, call the box office at (414) 443-8802. The WELS Youth Chorale and Wind Ensemble were created to offer dedicated, high school age, WELS musicians the opportunity to use their musical gifts at a high level. The groups are built on the principals of glorifying God, service and musical excellence. The ensemble performs annual concerts locally, regionally and nationally as an outreach ministry to spread God's word through music. Membership also allows young musicians to experience artistic and cultural opportunities in a variety of settings.

Wisconsin Lutheran College is a Christian liberal arts college located on the west side of Milwaukee.
