Date Posted: February 5, 2009
MILWAUKEE – The Wisconsin Lutheran Choir and Chamber Choir of Wisconsin Lutheran College will perform previews of their European Concert Tour Friday, February 27 through Sunday, March 1. The performances are part of the choirs' 2009 Wisconsin-Minnesota Concert Tour.
The choirs will present a diverse, mostly a capella program of sacred and secular choral music in original languages. Works to be performed include Orlando Gibbons' O Clap Your Hands; Morten Lauridsen's exquisite O Nata Lux, a serene a capella motet celebrating the Redeemer; and J.S. Bach's Nun lob mein Seel den Herren (My Soul, now Bless Thy Maker). The second set contains works by Felix Mendolssohn Bartholdy, György Orbán, and Józef Swider. The Chamber Choir will present a music sampler including Williametta Spencer's At the Round Earth's Imagined Corners, Stephen Paulus' The Old Church, and Lord of the Dance arranged by Larry L. Fleming. The four-part program concludes with arrangements of favorite hymns and spirituals including God is Seen by Alice Parker, Elijah Rock by Moses Hogan, F. Melius Christiansen's beloved Praise to the Lord and the Wisconsin Lutheran Choir's signature piece Abide With Me by Lucy Hirt.
Repertoire is selected from the Wisconsin Lutheran Choirs' 2009 European Concert Tour program. The choirs will travel to England, France, Luxembourg and Germany in May.
Dr. James Nowack, director of choral activities at Wisconsin Lutheran College since 1994, holds master of music degrees in piano performance and choral conducting from Kent State University and the University of Minnesota, respectively, and a doctor of musical arts from the University of Iowa.
