Date Posted: January 5, 2009

MILWAUKEE – The Wisconsin Lutheran College Concert Band Winter Tour takes place January 5 through January 10, 2009. Stops include five area Lutheran high schools in Wisconsin and Minnesota.

The concert theme is culturally enriching band dances. The performance opens with Buffalo Dances, a Native American piece by Robert W. Smith, and then turns to folk music in Tatarian Dances by Elena Roussanova Lucas. A Latin American celebration is heard in Symphonic Dance No. 3, "Fiesta" by Clifton Williams and Broadway favorites from Fiddler of the Roof are included in Symphonic Dances by Jerry Bock. The concert concludes on an American note with The Washington Post March by John Philip Sousa. The finale will include a joint performance with the host school's own high school band members.

The 53-piece concert band is under the direction of Professor Terry Treuden. Treuden has been the director of instrumental music at Wisconsin Lutheran College since the fall of 1999. He taught instrumental and other music courses for 30 years at the high school level before joining the faculty at Wisconsin Lutheran. Treuden is active as a clinician, adjudicator and guest conductor in jazz and concert band performance. In addition, he was the recipient of the 2006 Outstanding Bandmaster Award by the Wisconsin Chapter of Phi Beta Mu, the professional bandmaster fraternity. In addition, the Wisconsin Lutheran College Concert Band was selected to perform at the Wisconsin Chapter of the National Band Association State Convention in January of 2007.
