Youth camp offers an introduction to the world of theatre

Date Posted: May 22, 2008

Milwaukee – The Wisconsin Lutheran College Theatre Department is offering a youth theatre camp, “Places Please,” for children ages 5-11 in the college’s Center for Arts and Performance from June 16-27.

“Places Please” is offered in two one-week sessions and is broken down into two different age groups, 5-7 and 8-11. In session one, participants learn the fundamentals of acting, movement, interpretation, improvisation, storytelling, characters and much more through age appropriate games, activities, skits and crafts. Session two explores the imaginary world of storytelling and fairytales as children embark on an adventure, bringing to life well-known fictional characters and creatures from once-upon-a-time. Each session culminates in a final performance for family and friends.

Wisconsin Lutheran students Rebecca Wockenfuss, a fifth-year early childhood education and theatre major, along with Jacqueline Gardner, a sophomore theatre and psychology major, serve as instructors.

The camp, which runs daily from 1 to 4 p.m., takes place in the Raabe Theatre located in the Center for Arts and Performance, 8815 West Wisconsin Avenue. Registration deadline is June 11. Camp fees are $75 per session. Some discounts apply. For more information visit wlc.edu/arts or call (414) 443-8617.
