September 21, 2006

MILWAUKEE - For the first time in its 32-year history, Gus Macker is bringing its Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball All-World Championship to Milwaukee Sept. 23-24 at Wisconsin Lutheran College's Warrior Fields.  Former Gus Macker All-World Champions, the Flying Knueppel Brothers, are leading the organizing committee with sponsorship from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Southeast Wisconsin Regional Financial Office.

"We are thrilled Gus Macker's biggest tournament of 2006 is coming to Milwaukee," said Klint Knueppel, member of the Gus Macker Hall of Fame and Thrivent Financial's manager of Lutheran community services for the Milwaukee area.  "Not only are we hosting a national event, but we are raising money for an important cause - the MACC Fund."

A majority of the proceeds from the 2006 Gus Macker All-World Championship in Milwaukee will benefit the Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer (MACC) Fund.  Wisconsin Lutheran College athletic programs will also benefit.

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Southeast Wisconsin Regional Financial office awarded a $15,000 grant to support the MACC Fund and the Gus Macker All-World Championship tournament.  Additional sponsorships are needed.  Interested businesses and individuals should contact Klint Knueppel at 414-719-7193.

Hundreds of qualifying teams from around the country will be traveling to the Milwaukee area to participate in the 2006 Gus Macker All-World Championship.
