Wisconsin Lutheran College Dedicates Warrior Fields Athletic Complex
August 26, 2005
MILWAUKEE - Wisconsin Lutheran College dedicates Warrior Fields, the new 26-acre outdoor athletic complex, Saturday, September 10 at 12:40 p.m. The complex is located at 10200 W. Watertown Plank Road. The football game between the Warriors and the Rockford College Regents will follow the dedication with a 1 p.m. kick off.
"This is a great addition for the student-athletes of WLC and the entire community," says Edward Noon, athletic director. "For the first time, we have our own outdoor athletic fields, and they rival the finest in the Midwest."
Warrior Fields includes a football stadium, two soccer fields, track and field facilities and baseball and softball diamonds. The community is already taking advantage of the additional playing space. Area high schools are scheduled to use the football stadium this fall, and other fields are expected to be available for community athletic clubs in the spring.
The football field is made of FieldTurf, the latest advancement in artificial turf. The field has infill supported by rubber pellets and sand. Surrounding the football field is a nine-lane track with the same surface used in the last two summer Olympics. The scoreboard featuring a Jumbotron with full video capabilities is one of just three in Wisconsin. The other two are located at Camp Randall in Madison and Lambeau Field.
The soccer fields consist of an international-size game field with lighting, bleacher seating and hill-side seating and a practice field. The baseball and softball diamonds consist of a special infield mix, and the pitching mound has a blue gumbo clay mix - the same one found at most major league ball parks. Dugouts, lighting, bleachers and press box will be added in the future.
