Zoo Interchange construction to affect travel to WLC

Area road closures begin October 1

Date Posted: September 28, 2012

MILWAUKEE – The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is reconstructing the Zoo Interchange. The project will begin in 2013 and is projected to be completed in 2018. Projects to improve traffic flow on alternate routes now are under way.

People traveling to Wisconsin Lutheran College's campus on Bluemound Road or to the Krauss-Miller-Lutz Outdoor Athletic Complex on Watertown Plank Road may encounter detours or delays. Please plan ahead, allow extra time, and drive carefully.

The Office of Marketing and Communication will maintain a Zoo Interchange construction update page on the college's website throughout the project.

People also are encouraged to frequently check WisDOT's Zoo Interchange project website and Facebook page for information. Traffic alerts from WisDOT can be found on Twitter.

Travel Alert

On October 1, the US 45 northbound exit ramp to Bluemound Road will close for approximately two weeks for construction of a temporary exit ramp at Wisconsin Avenue, which will provide access to the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center and Wauwatosa during the project. This new ramp is expected to open later this fall. To accomplish this work, some short-term lane restrictions will take place overnight on US 45 the week of October 1. To reach WLC via the freeway during the ramp closure, exit I-94 at 84th Street.

Also starting October 1, 95th Street between Bluemound Road and Wisconsin Avenue will close for the construction of a cul-du-sac. This closure may affect travel between WLC and the Outdoor Athletic Complex. After the cul-du-sac is complete, motorists will be unable to use 95th Street to access the northbound entrance ramp to US 45. For access to US 45 northbound from Bluemound, use 97th Street north to Wisconsin Avenue, east at Wisconsin Avenue to the entrance ramp on left.
