Concert Band announces 2011 All-American Tour

Band departs on five-state tour May 16

MILWAUKEE – The Wisconsin Lutheran College Concert Band, under the direction of Prof. Terry S. Treuden, will kick off its 2011 All-American Tour with a home concert Friday, May 6 at 8 p.m. in the Schwan Concert Hall. The tour continues May 16-24 with seven stops in Iowa, Kansas, Texas, Louisiana, and Missouri.

The band's 2011 tour program is inspired by American composers. The opening number, Esprit De Corps, is a Robert Jager work commissioned by the United States Marine Band. San Antonio Dances was composed by Frank Ticheli as a tribute to special city. The trip through the United States continues with selections from Oklahoma! Clare Grundman's A Copland Tribute, a collage of passages from works by Aaron Copland, was created in 1985 to honor the eminent Brooklyn-born composer's 85th birthday. The program concludes with selections from George Gershwin, Scott Joplin, and John Philip Sousa.

The Schwan Concert Hall is located in the college's Center for Arts and Performance, 8815 W. Wisconsin Ave. The home concert is free, but seats need to be reserved through the box office by calling 414.443.8802 or visiting in person.
