Choirs present Christmas Festival Concert

Date Posted: November 18, 2010

MILWAUKEE – The Wisconsin Lutheran Choir, Chamber Choir, and Chapel Choir present the 2010 Christmas Festival Concert December 2, 3, and 4 at 8 p.m. and December 5 at 3 p.m. in the Schwan Concert Hall.

The 2010 Christmas Festival Concert is titled "All My Heart This Night Rejoices." This year's program blends holiday chestnuts, sacred classics, and contemporary arrangements of familiar Christmas texts and melodies.

Milwaukee Public Television (MPTV Channels 10 and 36) will broadcast portions of the concert December 22 on Channel 10 at 7 p.m., December 23 on Channel 36 at 9 p.m., and December 24 on Channel 10 at 9 p.m.

Wisconsin Lutheran Choir highlights include Sanctus from Duruflé's Requiem; the ancient song of praise Gaudete, from Steven Sametz's Two Medieval Lyrics; and the program's namesake, Z. Randall Stroope's All My Heart This Night Rejoices, a beautiful and poignant setting of a text by 17th-century poet and clergyman Paul Gerhardt.

The Chamber Choir will perform carols from around the world, including Noel Ayisyen by Emile Desamours (Haiti), Pengyou Ting arr. by Carolyn Jennings (China), and a buoyant interpretation of The Holly and the Ivy arranged by American composer Virgil Thomson.

The Wisconsin Lutheran Choir and Chamber Choir perform under the direction of Dr. James Nowack. The Chapel Choir is conducted by Prof. Carolyn Fons.

The Schwan Concert Hall is located in the Center for Arts and Performance at Wisconsin Lutheran College, 8815 West Wisconsin Avenue, Milwaukee.
