MILWAUKEE – Effective today through April 1, travel around Wisconsin Lutheran College will be affected due to emergency road closures in the Zoo Interchange.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation announced that US 45 northbound through the Zoo Interchange is closed indefinitely. Also, 84th Street is closed to local traffic, and the westbound I-94 off-ramp to 84th Street is closed. Three bus routes have been affected as well.
Check with the Milwaukee County Transit System for the latest bus route changes and with local media outlets for the latest information on closures.
Bluemound Road and Wisconsin Avenue are alternative east-west routes for traveling to WLC, however, expect increased traffic and travel delays on all roads in the area. Drivers on westbound I-94 should exit at 68th Street and head west to the college via Bluemound Road.
According to the Wisconsin DOT, bridge inspections on northbound US 45 conducted last night revealed additional cracking in the structure, prompting the immediate closure. Northbound traffic will be detoured to eastbound I-94 to 84th Street, turn around at 84th Street to head northbound on US 45.
Other closures are as follows:
- US 45 northbound on-ramp at Greenfield Avenue

- US 45 northbound on-ramp at National
- 84th Street will be closed in the area to facilitate movements for the detoured freeway traffic
- I-94 westbound 84th Street off-ramp
