German for International Business Major Requirements

  1. A German for International Business major consists of a minimum of 51 credits of required courses.

    1. 27 credits in German

    • GER 202 Intermediate German
    • GER 350 Intensive German Grammar
    • GER 360 German for International Business Communication
    • GER 375 Phonology and Phonetics
    • GER 402 Seminar in Selected Topics
    • 6-9 credits from the following courses: GER 311, GER 312, GER 321, GER 322, GER 323
    • 3-6 credits GER 490 Internship – 45 hours of internship = 1 credit (preferably at a German company in  the US)
    • GER 495 Senior Thesis

    2. 24 credits in business chosen from the following list with at least 15 credits at the 300/400 level*:

    • BUS 181 Microeconomics
    • BUS 182 Macroeconomics
    • PHI 210 Ethics or BUS 301 Business Ethics
    • BUS 220 Introduction to Finance and Investments
    • BUS 240 Principles of Marketing
    • BUS 250 Principles of Management
    • BUS 320 Intermediate Investments (prereq. BUS 220)
    • BUS 322 Intermediate Finance (prereq. BUS 220)
    • BUS 371 Cross Cultural Management (prereq. BUS 250)
    • BUS 372 Global Marketing (prereq. BUS 240)
    • BUS 380 History of Economic Thought (prereq. 182)
    • BUS 381 Managerial Economics
    • BUS 386 International Economics (prereq BUS 381)
    • BUS 420 International Finance (prereq. BUS 320 or BUS 322)

    *BUS 371, BUS 372, BUS 386, and BUS 420 are highly recommended for this major.

  2. Students must complete an approved program of residence in a German speaking-country.
  3. Students are required to take one collateral in either history (HIS 211, 331 [if topic is Modern Germany], 334), anthropology (ANT 201, 320), or communication (COM 309 –Intercultural Communication).
  4. Students must have a minimum grade of C in any course and a cumulative/GPA in the major of at least 2.50.
  5. Students must complete GER 101, 102 and 201 before entering GER 202 or be placed into the appropriate level by the department.
