Wesley Labahn translates her love for Shakespeare’s work into an internship

Good English teachers – from grade school through college - have fostered Wesley Labahn’s love for reading. This political science major and English minor enjoys the variety of her literature classes as well as the unique topics the faculty present. She can study her favorites – Shakespeare or English Romanticists, or she can opt to take a class in criticism or creative writing, among many more.

“The WLC English program offers a wide variety of classes and professors who are really good at what they do,” Labahn says. “I wish I had the time to make English my major!”

After a Shakespeare class, she became involved with Milwaukee Shakespeare, the only theatre in Milwaukee devoted exclusively to the production of Shakespeare’s works.  As part of a class project, Wesley chose to volunteer 10 hours of her time to this organization.  She enjoyed it so much that she chose to intern at Milwaukee Shakespeare beginning in January 2007, working toward the run of Henry IV part 2.  As an intern, tasks range from working on promotions to doing displays and copying scripts.  “It’s different every day,” says Labahn.
