Wisconsin Lutheran College is offering an online, non-credit, certificate course in Faith Community Nursing in the summer of 2019. Designed for both the experienced RN and the novice, the coursework will develop a Christian understanding of tools needed to develop or work in a Faith Community Nursing program, including how to:
- Foster a relationship with your church's leadership team.
- Utilize health assessment skills to evaluate and address your parish's health care and nursing needs.
- Prepare for and understand the process of Faith Community Nursing Certification through the ANCC.
The eight-week course will run from June 3 through July 26. Students will complete the course entirely online and asynchronously. Prior to the start of the course, each student will receive notification regarding how to access the course and materials. All students must have a basic knowledge of computers and use of a word processor. Due dates for assignments are set to keep the nurse on-track with completing course requirements. If the student has planned vacations or is unable to meet a due date, they must inform the instructor prior to the due date. All course requirements must be completed by July 26.
The fee for the certificate course is $630. The WELS Nursing Association (WELSNA) has financial aid available for WELS nurses taking the certificate course. WELSNA will award the nurse $200 if the congregation agrees to contribute $200 and the nurse contributes $230. Involving all three entities ensures that both the nurse and the congregation are invested in a future Faith Community Nursing program. There are 10 scholarships available.
Wisconsin Lutheran College requires that the entire course fee be paid by the registering student. Once registration is accepted, the student may then request reimbursement from their congregation. When you receive the receipt for payment of your registration, notify WELSNA at firstname.lastname@example.org that you have registered and provide a copy of the receipt. After successful completion of the course, WELSNA will reimburse you $200 from the matching funds grant.
