Wisconsin Lutheran College to Honor David Green at Divine Servant Award Celebration
Milwaukee, WI - Wisconsin Lutheran College (WLC) will honor David Green, Founder and CEO of Hobby Lobby, with the 2019 Divine Servant Award at a celebration on Friday, April 26, 2019. Guests will also enjoy a mini concert by Special Guest Artist and American Idol alum Danny Gokey. Sponsorships, individual tickets, and table reservations are on sale now. This event is open to the public.
Wisconsin Lutheran College established the Divine Servant Award in 2017 as an opportunity to honor an individual who exemplifies qualities of Christian servant leadership and has exhibited Christian values throughout his or her life of service. This event also serves as a fundraising event for student scholarships at Wisconsin Lutheran College. The inaugural award was presented in 2017 to President George W. Bush. Last year's celebration honored NFL Hall of Famer Tony Dungy.
“WLC's mission has always been about developing Christian servant leaders who will influence and change our world,” says Dr. Daniel W. Johnson, President of Wisconsin Lutheran College. “David Green is an inspiring example of a Christian leader who started with a simple idea, and through his unwavering commitment to his values, grew Hobby Lobby into what it is today, a God-blessed opportunity to give so much back to the community and Christian ministries.”
David Green and his wife, Barbara, started with a $600 loan to begin making miniature picture frames out of their Oklahoma City home in 1970. Today, Hobby Lobby is the largest privately owned arts-and-crafts retailer in the world. Currently, Hobby Lobby employs more than 37,500 employees company-wide and operates nearly 850 stores. In 2019, an estimated 65 new store locations will open, creating approximately 2,500-3,000 jobs. David is also the author of two books, More than a Hobby, and his most recent book, Giving it All Away… And Getting It All Back Again: The Way of Living Generously.
The community is invited to join WLC as the college presents David Green with the Divine Servant Award. This amazing evening will include a pre-event reception, three-course gourmet dinner by Bartolotta Catering, award presentation, question and answer session with David Green, a mini concert by singer-songwriter and Milwaukee native Danny Gokey, and a delectable afterglow with specialty coffee bar and dessert. The event will be held on the Wisconsin Lutheran College campus in the Recreation Complex - Time of Grace Center, 8800 W. Bluemound Road, Milwaukee. Individual tickets are $300 per person, tables of 10 for $3,000, or premium location tables of 10 are available for $5,000.
